Google Cloud Print comes to HP ePrint printers

HP has become the first major OEM to deliver support for Google Cloud Print in retail-boxed printers. In an official release, HP announced that its ePrint-enabled printers are now fully Cloud Print compatible. Just sign in to your Google account, pick your HP ePrint device, and you're ready to fire off a print job from anywhere you've got Internet access. Well, as long as your app supports Cloud Print as well -- like Gmail and Google Docs, for example.

We're curious, though -- how many of you are still printing? Like our pals at Engadget, our printers have been mostly gathering dust for the last few years.

When Silicon Valley venture firms set out to conquer China five-to-seven years ago, most of them picked one of three strategies. There was the branch office strategy, whereby the China partners and Valley partners would still work as one firm, making all investment decisions together as a unit and sharing in the returns equally. There was the more common franchise model, where a brand name Valley firm lent its name to a group of local Chinese investors, but mostly left them to make their own decisions. And then there was the joint venture model, where a well known Valley firm didn't seek to create a China office, it just partnered with an existing one. That last tack - the join venture model - is the one Accel took, partnering back in 2005 with IDG Ventures-- one of the pioneers of investing in the Chinese consumer Internet.

Firefox 4 now available to download, official release tomorrow

It isn't available from the official Firefox website yet, but Firefox 4 is now available to download from the Mozilla releases FTP server. Update: you can hit a random FTP mirror by using these links: Windows / Mac OS X / Linux. Update 2: Firefox 4 has now officially launched.

Despite what we reported last week, there was an unexpected (and unannounced) RC2 released on March 18. The final release build seems to have followed quickly after on Saturday, March 19. The official launch of Firefox 4 is due tomorrow.

Firefox 4 brings with it a slew of new features, including, most notably, a completely overhauled user interface that makes it look a lot like Chrome, but hardware acceleration and the jet-powered JaegerMonkey JavaScript engine also jostle for center stage. In true Mozilla style, Firefox 4 also brings support for many emerging standards, such as HTML5, CSS3 and WebGL. Finally, there are neat features like built-in Sync, restartless add-ons, and workspace management with Panorama.

Update: Mozilla has asked us to say that this might not turn out to be the actual final build. It's still going through QA right now, and something might come up. Don't worry though: your browser will automatically update if a new build is released.

There are also some exciting goodies planned for tomorrow, and Mozilla doesn't want us to satisfy your Firefox 4 hunger just yet. Basically, if you want to enjoy the 'true Firefox 4' experience (including the pretty first-run splash screen), you should hold off installing until it's released tomorrow.

Historic Photos Reveal a Mercury Never Seen Before

NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft on Tuesday and Wednesday captured and delivered to Earth the first photographs of Mercury ever taken from within the planet's orbit. Taken at 5:20 am EDT Tuesday, the historic first photo was soon joined by 364 more of the solar system's innermost planet, and several of them were released on Wednesday. Photos were taken by MESSENGER's Mercury Dual Imaging System as the spacecraft sailed high above the planet's south pole.
